FOR TODAY September 27, 2011 ...
Outside my window...
It's raining.
I am thinking...
That Bob would have found humor in the fact that when he died his two teams, the Detroit Tigers and the Detroit Lions, finally started winning. Especially the Lions who have been the laughing stock of football for years now.
I am thankful for...
The young men who came and removed the 30 feet of willow branch from the creek and cut down the remaining tree. It was huge and not in a good location to access. One more thing off my "A" list of things that needed to be done before winter.
From the kitchen...
Two recipes from Taste of Home's Cooking for One or Two.
My favorite of the two is the Orange Spiced Pecans. I want to grab a handful every time I go into the kitchen.
I also made the Lemon Thyme Cornish Hen. The basting sauce had butter and garlic along with the lemon and thyme. The result was OK. Interesting and eatable. Not something I'll likely make again, but it was fun to try the recipe.
I am wearing...
Jeans, a plain royal blue sweatshirt, handknit wool socks and New Balance shoes.
I am creating...
Nothing today.
I am going...
To miss the hummingbirds. The residents have all left but I'm still getting an occasional migrant stopping by for a drink.
I am reading...
Just finished Anna's Book by Ruth Rendell writing as Barbara Vine. A wonderful book spanning three generations that is so much about the people I forgot I was reading a mystery until it all came together at the end. Totally enjoyed every chapter.
I am hoping...
That the bathroom remodel gets done the week of October 10, the week it is tentatively scheduled. I'm not looking forward to having men in the house for five days and trying to keep out of their way and keeping the dogs calm. I want it over with. I need some quiet time.
I am going to be very happy to enjoy the results of the project, I just don't want to go through the doing of the project.
I am hearing...
Quietly falling rain with an occasional car splashing by.
Around the house...
I know that once the bathroom is done the rest of the house is going to need sprucing up. A new coat of paint at minimum.
One of my favorite things...
The new retaining walls in the front of the house. There will be pictures in a separate blog post so I can record the old and the new.
A few plans for the rest of the week:
Glory had her urine check today and I already got the call that she passed with flying colors on a preventative dose of half what she was taking. So for the next week, we're going to try half of that.
Pappy goes to the vet Wednesday to make sure his anal glands are infection free.
There needs to be shopping for new bathroom supplies: A light fixture, towel bars, paper holder, curtain rod, and paint. I'll start with Home Depot and hope I can finish there.
Here is picture thought I am sharing...
Lake Michigan Sunset. Taken September, 2004 after a Doggy School picnic.

Yum - those pecans look delicious! Thanks for the book recommendation. It's always nice to have books to put on my wish list at the library. The problem with doing any kind of redecorating or remodeling is that it does make everything else look shabby and it's like a ball rolling downhill - it just doesn't stop. The projects just keep on coming!
Dear Friend~ Yes, you are my friend though we've never met and probably never will. I appreciate your openly sharing with a bunch of strangers your life, your thoughts, your skill. I've been inspired by your knitting blogs and have gotten a good number of socks on and off the needles. I like to knit in the car to and from church (an hour each way) and to and from my Mom's (five hours each way). Praying for you that God's peace will flood your heart and your home in the days ahead. The best to you and your woof woofs. ~mlk
Those pecans sure look yummy! I've taken their magazine for a long time and didn't know they had a book. Love that sunset photo; I grew up on the sunrise side of the lake, and your photo brought back memories.....
I'm glad to hear that the dogs are doing better. I hate renovating with a passion. I hate to have my personal space messed up/invaded. I hope your bathroom project is done quickly.
Willow really is pretty worthless as a wood. The only good use we've found is if we have a fire outdoors, you can flop a big chunk of willow on the top and it burns so slow and cool that there will be fire underneath it in the morning.
It's the only wood I've ever used like ashes to bank up a fire!
M: YOu are doing so well. just enjoying pecans and noticing it means you are taking small steps in joy ...you deserve joy again. It will come.
IM glad your home repairs are going so well.
I'll miss my few hummers too. I put up suet today. Glad the pups are good for now.
