Brandywine is done. To be more specific, the knitting is done. I only need to sew up the side seams, weave in the ends, and block it. Last week I told myself I would do that before casing on Metro.
But I have a jaw ache. Not just a little jaw ache. It's the kind of jaw ache where you occasionally need to remind yourself it's not a good idea to blow your head off. It's the kind of jaw ache that requires simple, soothing, knitting for the moments you can stand to knit.
So, I cast on Metro. It's wonderful, mindless knitting at this point and I have about six inches done.
Tomorrow morning I'm scheduled for an apicoectomy at the endodontist.
If you don't know what an apicoectomy is, consider yourself fortunate. I didn't know either until yesterday morning.
If you do know what an apicoectomy is and have horror stories about you or someone you know who had one, please keep your stories to yourself. I'd love to hear about successes, though.
I do know I've been told to have multiple ice packs on hand and I've been promised post-operative pain, facial swelling, and possibly bruising. And I may not want to talk for a few days.
I'm looking forward to this. Really. My jaw hurts so much now that the promise of improvement is worth the ordeal of getting there. It's very possible the post-operative pain may be less than the pre-operative pain, and if I look swollen and awful I may get extra sympathy and maybe even ice cream.
I wish you no pain or as littel as possible. I've been through so many dental procedures, including all upper implants, that I know you will do very well here. Just don't be a martyr and take all the pain pills you can....Pain here is no gain!
ReplyDeleteI don't know what it is. But I can pray.
ReplyDeleteWishing you success on your procedure. It can't possibly be worse than having a wisdom tooth surgically extracted - which I had done twice this past year. And I, too, was looking forward to it SO much. The post op was a piece of cake compared to the pain I was in. Will be thinking of you tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteBags of frozen peas are even better than ice packs. They mold to shape. Recommended by my oral surgeon. We used fleece headbands to hold them in place. Of course, KNITTED headbands would be appropriate...
ReplyDeleteMetro is looking gorgeous, Marguerite.
ReplyDeleteHolding a good thought for you tomorrow. I like the suggestion above of a bag of frozen peas held in place with a fleece headband. I get a great mental image of you sitting there with these accoutrements, knitting away on Metro.
I know you will be feeling much better soon...hugs!
I had an apicoectomy about thirty years ago and it was no big deal. Honestly. And I am a dental wimp who needs nitrous oxide for a cleaning. I'd rather endure abdominal surgery than have a cavity filled but the apicoectomy? Pretty much a piece of cake. I remember my husband picking me up after the procedure and we went to the supermarket to pick up something for dinner and I was totally fine and continued to be so right up until today! So don't worry and you'll sail right through it. I'll be sending good thoughts.
ReplyDeleteOh, I hope you get relief soon. My only hint is an ice pack made of one part rubbing alcohol and 3 parts water (you can tint with food coloring for fun (!) and freezer identification) is one of the coldest and most pliable ice packs around. We have used a food saver to enclose ours, but double freezer baggies will work also. I'd make to so you can rotate. Best of luck!
ReplyDeleteOh, dear! You will be in my thoughts. I hope all goes well, and your knitting will help you through it.
ReplyDeleteI will send good thoughts your way and I sure hope you have someone to feed the birds! Rest and feel well real soon.
ReplyDeleteWill be thinking of you and sending good thoughts tomorrow, Marguerite. Metro's looking great! And I LOVE your new header; what a great photo!
ReplyDeleteSending healing wishes for a speedy recovery.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry you are having so much pain but hopefully you will be back to normal within a few days. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteMetro is the perfect project while you recover. I like the simple, classic design.
Good luck, Marg! I hope the recovery is as easy and as swift as possible for you!
ReplyDeleteI hope everything goes really well and you have little to no pain. And I hope you get much knitting done. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI hope the apicoectomy does the trick. It's got to be a better alternative than living with the pain that you have now.
ReplyDeleteOh M!!!! I am so very sorry. > Heres to a quick recovery and less than anticpated pain. Ugh. Praying for you!
ReplyDeleteNo sweat, although the one I had was in a canine up front, so access was fairly easy. I got to look up and over the dentist and watch the whole procedure on a monitor. I found it fascinating. I may have had headphones--I'd suggest you take your own. I don't remember postsurgical pain. Whatever happens, it is a good bet you will feel better than you feel now!!
ReplyDeletewishing you well on your procedure!
ReplyDeleteWhen I had mine, post op pain was minimal. Especially compared to pre op discomfort, which made me want to have all the teeth pulled so it could never happen again!!!
ReplyDeleteJust checking in: How are you doing? Better, I hope!!
ReplyDeleteOh wow you get a poor baby for that!! You will be in my prayers. I'm sending out good thoughts for you to be back to normal and feeling great soon. Thanks for the link to Metro. I'm hooked on sweaters right now and downloaded it for the near future.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping you are recovering nicely. Or at least recovering. I didn't know what that procedure was until I clicked on your link. Eww. May you have lots of pain meds to get you thru this.
ReplyDeleteJust reading your post on Sunday evening and I'm thinking about you. Hope all went well and you are smiling again.
