Meetup with Dorothy and Bill

Dorothy, who blogs at Missouri Star, and I have been online friends for over five years. She and her husband Bill live on Whitby Island in Washington.

All this time we've tossed around the idea of getting together someday, but it never worked out - until today. Dorothy and Bill are doing a cross country motor trip and today we met in Kalamazoo for lunch.

Dorothy is even nicer in person than she is on her blog. Lunch was over way too quick. I hope we can meet again when there's more time to chat.

Doesn't Bill look like he's having fun with his new toy/iPad?

It's the first one I've seen in person and I have to admit I was impressed. It's a very useful, fun toy.

Yes, it was great fun! I'm so glad we were finally able to make it happen. If only we had time to really knit together.

I grew up in the computer/internet-less age and it still totally amazes me that we can make friends with people all over the world right from our own homes. It is so great that you were able to finally meet in person.

Yeah, iPad. I recently bought an iPod Touch and fell in love with it. The apps are amazing! I've convinced myself that I really need an iPad too and planning to head out to buy it tomorrow.

My husband and I fell in love at first sight with the i pad but second looks had us re-thinking. The lack of compatibility with Adobe Flash, which I thought would be no big deal really is. We go boating a lot and the weather, in particular, the radar, is very important. The weather channel radar picture is Adobe Flash. Reading on the I pad, which was the main reason for looking at it (my husband is legally blind but can still read large print) is expensive. We use the library for almost all of our books, both audio and visual. The i pad is not compatible with our library system, and purchasing books adds up in a hurry. also, we had hoped to get him back to reading a weekly news magazine. He really likes keeping up with the world and getting more details than what the local news channel provides. It costs $20 per month for Time and $12 per month for Newsweek. That's shameful since they don't have printing or mailing costs to worry about. I am truly disappointed.
